Liquid Carryover Through Wire Mesh Mist Eliminators

A sugar and ethanol mill located in the interior of São Paulo was experiencing severe liquid carryover of cane juice in a set of six preevaporators. The carryover was so critical that the equipment could no longer operate at full juice flow capacity — it was limited to a total of 900m³/h, or 150m³/h per preevaporator.

These evaporators were equipped with a centrifugal separator, a traditional but now somewhat outdated technology compared to modern alternatives. As a result, the efficiency of removing the finest cane juice droplets from the vapor exiting the evaporators was low.

Facing these challenges, the mill contacted Clark Solutions to identify the best solution. We selected a metal wire mesh mist eliminator — the MaxiMesh. This equipment captures extremely fine droplets (on the order of 5µm — 10 to 12 times thinner than a human hair).
